Migrating to Hugo
Apr 14, 2026 - 2 min readThe entirety of (the remainder of) this post was written by Claude Sonnet. –CB
If you look back at my Site Architecture post from a decade ago, you’ll see I already went through the static site generator evaluation process once. That led me to Hexo, which served me well for a long time. But Hexo has aged, and so I’ve migrated to Hugo.
New Look
Jan 17, 2019 - 1 min readPart of the reason I’m leaving Facebook is to spend more time on thoughtful content here on my site. I was never completely happy with the old theme but I left it in place for quite awhile. Recently I found Hueman and quite like its simplicity and performance. I’ve had to edit a few posts here and there and create a “logo” for the header but overall I’m pleased.
I will be evolving the site logo and logotype as part of my focus on the site so I’m hoping to improve it greatly.

Introspection
Dec 15, 2016 - 1 min readI’ve been thinking a lot about how to preserve some of my thoughts publicly and what form this site should take. My misadventures with WordPress on the now-defunct breddy.net left me with a bad taste in my mouth for PHP frameworks and I remain skeptical of publish-platform-as-a-service offerings like Medium, Tumblr and Facebook. Twitter is too limiting for reasonable discourse.
Site Architecture
May 22, 2016 - 2 min readThe way it works is I have a bunch of Markdown that gets processed by Hexo and synced to an S3 bucket. This is a process that was ostensibly made mainstream by Jekyll but is now supported by a lot of different tools in the same genre.
Back From the Dead
May 22, 2016 - 1 min readAfter what was probably the third or fourth battle with hacked WordPress installs, someone finally completely sunk breddy.net. I’m changing strategy and using static files in AWS.
